This test bench performs tests on heating tapes in accordance with Section 5.2.12 of the NF EN 62395-1 standard. It consists of a stainless steel frame incorporating a test area, a fluid-based thermal control circuit, and a power supply system coupled with data acquisition modules.

Main functions

This test bench automates quality control and endurance testing of heating tapes. LF Technologies designs and manufactures this machine for production facilities and certification laboratories.

Operating mode

1. System Features and Metrics

  • Thermal regulation: The system applies programmed temperature cycles to measure changes in the component’s electrical resistance based on the heat dissipated.
  • Electrical measurements: The data acquisition modules record the current, voltage, and power consumption at each stage of the cycle.
  • Data acquisition: The software, developed using LabVIEW, continuously records the temperature of the strip via thermocouples and plots the temperature curves in real time.

2. Mechanical and Electrical Specifications

  • Test chamber: The chamber isolates the ribbon to stabilize the thermal environment during the test.
  • Built-in safety features: The system includes thermal circuit breakers and automatic power shutoffs in the event that the critical thresholds defined in the program are exceeded.
  • Control: The operator interface allows the user to configure the number of cycles, temperature setpoints, and test duration.

3. Compliance with the specifications

  • Software customization: Test sequences can be configured through the application to meet specific standards in the trace heating industry.
  • Traceability: At the end of each cycle, the machine generates a raw test report in CSV or PDF format for archiving manufacturing data.

The test bench tests six heating tapes in parallel. Each line has its own circuit breaker. An electrical failure in one tape cuts off power to the affected line without interrupting the cycle of the other three lines.

The software controls the thermal chamber to replicate the temperature ramps specified in the technical specifications. The system eliminates the impact of ambient temperature fluctuations in the factory on the measurement of electrical resistance.
