Test bench for testing the burst resistance of lighters

  • 110 bars: Maximum hydraulic burst pressure.
  • 16 test specimens: Capacity of the test frame with automatic transition between each specimen.
  • 0.5 to 2 bar/s: Speed of the controlled pressurization ramp.
  • 245 N: Pneumatic clamping force per test specimen (generated at 5 bars).

The solution provided by LF Technologies

Our client is an international manufacturer of consumer goods, best known for its lighters. To strengthen its production quality controls, the company wanted a test bench capable of performing pressure tests on lighter bodies until they burst, under repeatable and safe conditions.

Main functions

Objective

Conduct pressure resistance tests on lighter bodies until they burst, in order to verify their mechanical integrity under repeatable, controlled, and safe test conditions. The test bench allows products to be subjected to a controlled pressure build-up, with precise monitoring of measurements throughout the test cycle.

Issues

The customer needed to test lighter bodies under pressure while ensuring that the parts were securely held in place during the test, operator safety, and the reliability of the results obtained. Since the tests involved pressurizing the product to the point of rupture, the test stand also had to minimize splatter, automatically manage transitions between tests, and detect any leaks before reaching the target pressure.

Solution and Result

LF Technologies has developed a modular burst test bench for lighter bodies, consisting of a test area, clamping subassemblies, a static pressure generator, and control software.

The operator places the test specimens in the test area, enters the occupied positions, and sets the desired pressure. The test bench then automatically handles the clamping of the test specimens, the pressure ramp-up, the sequence of tests, and the saving of measurements.

Its modular design allows it to accommodate up to 16 test subsystems, with the option to adjust the number of stations according to the customer’s needs.

Crash-Multi

The Crash-Multi is a pressure and burst test bench designed to test the strength and leak tightness of pressurized components, such as lighters, cartridges, tanks, or other parts subjected to internal pressure.

Fully software-controlled, it allows users to configure test parameters, ensure automatic clamping of products, control the pressure build-up up to 110 bar, and monitor measurements in real time.

Thanks to its modular design, the test bench can accommodate up to 16 products. The test cycles are automated to ensure test repeatability, operator safety, and traceability of results.

With its measurement accuracy of 0.5 bar, its secure chamber, and its monitoring software, the Crash-Multi meets the needs of manufacturers seeking to ensure the reliability of their strength tests, detect leaks, and verify the compliance of their components in production or R&D.
