Storage tanks

Storage tanks, more commonly known as hot water tanks, are hot water tanks enclosed by thermal insulation, intended to distribute hot water to sanitary or heating installations

Conventional hot water tank
Flat hot water tank

Objective

Carry out static and cyclic pressure tests on hot water storage tanks in accordance with EN 12897 (Water supply - Requirements for indirectly heated hot water storage tanks not open to the atmosphere (closed)).

Problematic issues

The customer wanted to have a set of 6 hydraulic stations and to be able to set them up easily.

Solution and result

LF Technologies has proposed a set of cyclic pressure benches, allowing simultaneous tests to be carried out on different hot water tanks

A hydraulic oil pump is driven by an electric motor and sucks or pumps oil into a tank. The water is pressurised by the oil pressure, which allows the pressure of the water tank to be raised or lowered during the test, in a perfectly controlled cycle

A pressure sensor, positioned in the water circuit, ensures the recording and control of the pressure cycles. In addition, a level sensor, located in the oil tank, monitors volume variations to detect a rupture of the tank under test.  A solenoid filling valve and a valve fill the tank and the water circuit at the beginning of each cycle.

The tests are set from a programming PC connected to the bench. The parameters to be defined include static pressure, cycling pressure, duration of the stages and the number of cycles. The cycles are then started via the control box located on the front of the bench.
