Technical Description

LF Technologies’ XAE range of underwater linear actuators are submersible electric cylinders specially developed for subsea applications such as submarines, underwater drones such as AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles) and ROVs (remotely operated underwater vehicles), as well as for subsea installations.

Features of the XAE subsea linear actuator :

  • Integrated control: on-board electronics for precise control of position and speed directly in the actuator.
  • Absolute measurement : integrated absolute position measurement: no need to search for zero.
  • Custom stroke : stroke length can be tailored to the specific needs of each application.
  • Multiple communication protocols : compatible with several protocols such as CAN, RS232, Ethernet TCP, Ethernet UDP, Modbus TCP , with customisation on request.
  • Flexible mounting options: different mounting options available for the actuator body and stem, facilitating mechanical integration into various subsea systems.

Validation and testing of XAE underwater linear actuators :

All linear actuators for submarines developed by LF Technologies are fully tested in-house:

  • Full functional tests : tests carried out in air and underwater under real load;
  • Rigorous tightness tests : validation of tightness up to limit pressure;
  • Verification of communication protocols : checks that the system is operating correctly according to the protocol chosen by the customer (CAN, RS232, Ethernet TCP, Ethernet UDP, Modbus TCP, protocols on request);
  • Full energy analysis: measurement of current and power consumption according to several usage scenarios.
