Rotovator gearbox
A rotovator is an agricultural machine designde for gardening (soil working for gardening or cultivation).
A gearbox is a mechanical device that lets a vehicle go back and forth by sending engine torque to the wheels with a drive shaft.
Objective
Designing a serial test bench that can assess the proper functioning of the gearbox before installing it on the final product.
Problematic issues
Creating a production unit test bench for the rotovator gearbox. The maximal cycle length for the gearbox must be under two minutes.
Solution and result
This test bench’s design has been studied for a sit/stand operating position. The testing area is in the front part of the bench and is topped by a control touch-screen.
The operator puts the part to be tested on a support equipped with special weight control sensors that can measure oil filling.
An active geared motor ensures the gear box’s input power. A passive geared motor ensures the part absorption.
The gear box is then pressurised. Operating speed is applied to the entrance and torque force is applied at the exit. Once the test over, a selector changes the speed and the testing cycle starts over in the same way for every speed (first, second and reverse gear).
On the opposite, when in neutral position, the test bench controls that there is not any torque.
The test bench is controlled via a costumed computer software. While running the tests, this bench can measure various data:
- Performance
- Input torque
- Operating torque
- Pressure drops
- Output torque
- Input speed
Once the tests are complete, a tag is printed and glued on the gearbox to ensure product’s traceability.
