Rotating couplings

A rotating coupling is a mechanical part that allows the transmission of rotational power.

Rotating coupling

Objective

Study the elastic deformation of the coupling when a torque is applied.

Problematic issues

Apply high precision torque, with precise torque/angle measurement. The assembly should be designed so that the non-torque components (radial force, axial force) are negligible.

Solution and result

The proposed equipment is a vertical axis device allowing the application of a torque representative of the conditions of use of the product without any axial and transverse parasitic effort. In particular, it enables torque/torsion angle curves to be drawn and to validate that these curves fall within a tolerance envelope.

An automatic curve analysis system measures torsional rigidity, searches for slip torque and measures the energy dissipated by the product. These tests are performed in automatic cycling to evaluate the evolution of all these measurements during the life of the product.

The machine is equipped with an automatic compensation system for its own stiffness. The tests can be carried out in a thermal chamber in an oil bath. The torsion bench is controlled by a custom developed software that allows, among other things, to edit test settings and to visualise all results.

This bench is used in the R&D laboratory to qualify new products and in production to check the conformity of manufactured parts.

This torsion test bench allows to reduce the development time of new products and to continuously ensure the performance of products manufactured on the production line, by performing reproducible tests with objective results that do not depend on the user.
